Our Story

We’ve love every minute of our journey

In the begining

Mission Peak Spartans started by holding it's Saturday morning classes at Old Mission Park. Using kettle bells, dumb bells, bands, medicine balls and a pull up bar.  We were able to build up the strength and conditioning of our members.  However, we lacked the ability to face and master obstacles. 

....and now

Partnered with Irvington High School and Spartan Education program, we have a offering like no other in the bay area.  We are able to set up our obstacle course outside and train in a real race environment simulating the conditions racers are put through in an OCR.  We give our members the ability to face their fears and develop their skills to conquer obstacles the race course and ultimately build resilience and grit to overcome life's obstacles.

Head Coach Ty Rawlinson

Ty Rawlinson has been a personal trainer for over 10 years, with a background in rehabilitation and working with a chiropractor doing physiotherapy.

When Ty isn't Coaching

Ty's passion for the Spartan experience, developing trainers, and helping clients realize their fitness goals has motivated him to train for and obtain the Spartan Level II SGX coaching certification

Ty has led the charge in creating a local community of dedicated Spartan enthusiasts.

 Assistant Head Coach Nicol


Nicol is passionate about the impact and power of human connection and capabilities. She believes the adage that although ‘alone you can go faster, together we can go farther’. 

Working with small teams and large organizations Nicol thrives when partnering to discover, leverage, develop and unleash individual and team strengths, collaborating to identify obstacles, assessing the challenges or risks in eliminating them, and with laser focus on execution driving to enable and support an environment where achievement is celebrated.

Nicol's education and certifications include

  • Nicol’s has over 30 years of experience as a Group Instructor and Performance Coach.
  • Certified Personal Trainer: NESTA - National Exercise and Sports Trainers Association Certified Personal Fitness Trainer Certified Spartan

Experienced Obstacle Course Racer (OCR) – finishing over 20 races and completing 3 Spartan Race Trifectas

Nicol’s skills and appetite for optimizing human potential neatly transfer over to her other passion which is coaching to overcome obstacles (physical, mental and emotional challenges), helping kids and adults transform their bodies and improve their life experience. This is where Nicol steps in as our assistant coach for obstable course training with Mission Peak Spartans.

Coach Jessica

VP Marketing

 Jessica loves movement, meeting challenges, and having fun! With this recent passion for OCR, Jessica completed 3x Spartan Trifecta and competed in the OCR World Championships in Blue Mountains, Ontario.

  • Jessica completed her 200 Hr yoga teach training from Avalon Yoga in 2004 and has taught in various group fitness and physical rehabilitation settings.
  • Her teaching style also stems from her AA massage therapy,
  • MS Occupational Therapy, Integrative Health Coaching training, and
  • Spartan SGX Coach L1 Certification and
  • CorePower's Yoga Sculpt Teacher training.

Whether it is an obstacle race or yoga practice, Jessica teaches to build strength, coordination, endurance, power, and flexibility, but mostly to meet new mental and physical challenges with success and fun.

Certified Personal Trainer

Terrence’s competitive nature and hunger for new fitness challenges, led him to complete a 2X Spartan Trifecta his first year. His new found passion for Spartan has led him to become a personal fitness trainer and Spartan coach. Whether in group training or one on one, his goal is to help his client’s develop into a healthier version of who they are. He is highly driven and loves to motivate and encourage others and is a strong advocate for self-health and wellness.

  • Terrence is the founder and CEO of Livinproof365 which represents health and fitness 365 days of the year. Livinproof365 focuses on the physical and mental preparation for staying disciplined to live a healthy lifestyle.

"I was tired of the big gym classes – and so glad I found Ty’s classes. The workouts are challenging but still fun. The exercises and obstacles are different everytime so I’m learning something new every class and I’m never bored. I like that free weights are also used during the class. I’ve definitely gotten stronger and improved my endurance since coming to Ty’s classes."


Since finding a home with Mission Peak Spartans I have been able to increase my strength and skills to continue to participate in OCR races at the ripe old age of 55. With Ty’s positive and non-intimidating approach to training I continue to grow and learn about health and safe training to help me improve my skills. Saturdays Obstacle training classes have helped me to climb the 18-foot rope and get over the wall and push myself harder which is a great achievement. Great people great training love it.

The pull up bars were the center of attraction when we first started in Old Mission Park
